Airalo launched in 2019 and quickly became the biggest name in travel eSIMs. They operate as a marketplace — aggregating eSIM plans from local carriers in 190+ countries — which means you can find a genuinely local network plan for almost any destination. But is it the best option for you?

    What Makes Airalo Different

Most eSIM providers operate their own plans across a fixed set of carriers. Airalo works differently — they partner with local network operators in each country and sell those plans directly. This means you're often getting a plan that runs on the same network as local residents, rather than a generic international plan.

    Coverage

190+ countries and territories. Both local (single-country) and regional plans available. Their "Eurolink" plan covers 39 European countries. North America plan covers USA + Canada. Asia plan covers 14 countries including Thailand, Japan and Vietnam.

    Pricing

Competitive, but varies widely by destination. European plans typically start around £3–5 for 1GB, with larger bundles (10GB+) offering better value. You can compare plans directly in the app before committing.

    The App

One of the strongest aspects of Airalo. The app is clean, fast and well-reviewed on both iOS and Android. You can browse, purchase, install and manage all your eSIMs from one place. QR code installation is straightforward and guided.

    What Airalo Doesn't Do

    • No calling or SMS — Airalo plans are data-only. For calls, you'll need to use WhatsApp, FaceTime or a VoIP app.
    • No physical SIM option — eSIM only, so your device must support it
    • Customer support is app/email only — no live phone support

⭐ Verdict: Airalo is the best all-round choice for most travellers — particularly if you visit multiple countries and want data-only plans at fair prices. If you need calls and SMS, look at Yesim or Drimsim instead.

    Airalo Alobucks — Loyalty Rewards

Airalo has a loyalty points system called Alobucks. You earn points with every purchase that can be used as a discount on future eSIMs. Useful if you're a frequent traveller who'll use Airalo multiple times a year.
